Matrix is an open communication protocol for chat, audio and video conferencing that is decentralized, federated and fully open source.
Element is the best-known Matrix client: a modern web and desktop app for messaging, group rooms, file sharing and voice and video calls.
What sets Matrix apart:
Open standard & federation (like email, anyone can run their own server)
Security & privacy (end-to-end encryption)
Integration & extensibility (bridges to Slack, Signal, IRC, Telegram and more)
Platform independence (web, desktop, mobile)
This makes Matrix a serious replacement for proprietary chat tools, especially in environments with high privacy requirements or self-operated IT systems.
Our experience with Element (Matrix client) in client projects
We use Matrix internally as our chat system to enable secure, decentralized and fully encrypted communication. Our preferred client is Element, or the new Element X, which stands out with its modern interface and robust encryption architecture. In daily use, Matrix with Element has proven to be a powerful platform for internal communication, teamwork and knowledge sharing.
Understanding the strengths and mastering the challenges
We worked intensively to make the login process convenient and secure for our employees. This includes in particular integration with a central identity management system (IDM) and the setup of single sign-on (SSO), so users can sign in easily and securely. We also have experience structuring chat rooms and spaces so that they are used sensibly in everyday work, from team rooms and project channels to organization-wide communication areas. A particular focus is the secure use of Matrix across different devices. Since communication is fully end-to-end encrypted, we know how important it is to handle recovery keys and security mechanisms properly. We evaluated and established these processes internally to balance security and usability.
Our contribution to stable Matrix and Element environments
We support companies with the setup, integration and optimization of Matrix and Element systems. This includes connecting to existing identity and access systems, structuring rooms and communication channels, and ensuring encryption, backup and recoverability. We also support ongoing operations, updates and security checks to ensure a reliable and scalable communication platform.
